Extended Tour 3: Goin' North
Extended Tour # 3 One nighter, Goin’ North.

This is designed for riders from Queensland to go home the long, less travelled way.

Day #1: The Summerland Way, Lions Road, up through Mount Bunya - Approx. 530 kms

Leave Squeakygate Retreat heading through Maclean to Lawrence, right onto Pringle’s Way and right onto the Summerland Way. Basically follow the Summerland Way until approx. 30kms past Kyogle. Turn right onto the famous Lions Road. Initally this is call Grady's Creek Rd., then Lions Rd., then Running Creek Road. This is a great ride, just beware it is tight and the road surface in some places is not that good. Beware also of fallen branches. You will come out at Rathdowney.  Take the Boonah- Rathdowney Rd. to Boonah. This is gorgeous country and Boonah is also a top town.
From Boonah turn left and take the Boonah Fassifen Rd.[90], to Fassifen and then turn left onto the Cunningham Hwy., riding west to Glengallan, turn right onto the New England Hwy.[A3].
Here you have two options:

Follow the New England Hwy. into Toowoomba and then navigate your way to the Warrego Hwy., going west and turn right onto onto  the Kingaroy Cooyar Rd., [68]. Follow this to Maidenwell and turn right onto the Maidenwell Bunya Mountain Rd.. You might care to have a cleansing Lemonade at the pub. A good spot. It’s a gorgeous ride through Mt. Bunya. Follow this into Kumbia.

On the New England Hwy. ride through Allora, then turn left onto the Gatton Clifton Rd., into the Clifton, then right at Kings St., left at the Clifton Leyburn Rd., and right onto the Clifton Pittsworth Rd.. Go straight across the Toowoomba Karara Rd., this becomes the Clifton Rd.. Go across the Gore hwy. taking the Oakey Pittsworth Rd., past Mt. Tyson until you hit Warrego Hwy.[A2]. This is a bit tricky, as there is usually a lot of traffic. Turn left onto the Hwy., get immediately into the right lane and turn right about 1km down the road on to the Kingaroy Cooyar Rd., [68]. Follow this to Maidenwell, via the New England Hwy [A3] and left onto the Kingaroy Cooyar Rd.. There is a nice old pub at Madenwell, right on the corner as you turn left onto the Maidenwell Bunya Mountain Rd.. You might care to have a cleansing Lemonade at the pub. A good spot. It’s a gorgeous ride through Mt. Bunya. Follow this into Kumbia.

The latter is my preferred route, avoiding Toowoomba.

Day # 2:
Head home to wherever that is in Qld, or you might want to wind you way back to Glen Innes along the New England Hwy., perhaps staying overnight , there or somewhere south. You may be going East or North. To get to the coast, a suggested route would be to take State Route 49, the Wide Bay Hwy., going north through Kingaroy and Kilkivan, then turn right onto the the Bruce Hwy [A1] east of Bell's Ridge. Follow the A1 until just north of Cooroy, turning onto Elms St., and the left onto the Cooroy Noosa Rd.
Lion's Road... Nice, but take care
Approaching Rathdowney
Gorgeous country
Mount Bunya... relaxing.
